Police have charged two people in the stabbing death of a 21-year-old man.

Michael Lieto died on Tuesday after being stabbed during a fight near 20 Maplevale Road.  His brother, Robert Lieto, 26, was also stabbed and a third brother, Dion Lieto, 23, was assaulted during the fight, according to police.

East Haven Police received several 911 calls about the fight around 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday.

Michael and Robert Lieto were both rushed to the Yale-New Haven Hospital, where Michael Lieto was pronounced dead, police said.  Robert Lieto was treated for his injuries and released.

It appeared the altercation took place over a stolen item, according to investigators.

Police arrested 21-year-old Aaron Powell and an unnamed 17-year-old shortly after the incident.

Powell is charged with first-degree manslaughter, first degree assault, reckless endangerment, carrying a dangerous weapon and breach of peace.  He is being held on $1 million bond. His case has been transferred to Part A and a court date of Dec. 4 was set. He is also due in court on Nov. 16 for another case.

All three Lieto brothers live in Wallingford, but are previously from East Haven, police said.

A Facebook page set up in remembrance of Michael Lieto said friends were planning a candlelight vigil for him on the East Haven Town Green beginning at 6 p.m.
