Wesleyan University officials have decided to resume normal activities and reopen buildings on campus after Wednesday’s deadly shooting of Johannah Justin-Jinich.

The junior was shot and killed while she worked at Red and Black Cafe inside Broad Street Books, a popular bookstore near campus.

The suspect Stephen Morgan surrendered to Meriden police Thursday night.

The library and other buildings will reopen Friday.

However, the Wesleyan campus still isn’t back to normal. Many students have decided that the best way to deal with the tragedy and to feel safe was to stay away.

"A lot of kids are heading home. A lot of people are pretty upset. It's shocking," Samantha LaCroce, a Wesleyan student, said.

Michael Roth, president of Wesleyan University, issued a statement Thursday expressing his heartfelt thanks for the many messages of concern the school has received.

“We are all breathing a little easier with this news. Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Johanna and hope that this latest development brings them some measure of comfort,” he wrote.

A memorial service for Jinich will be held  Friday at 1 p.m. in the Huss Courtyard behind the Usdan Center on campus.
