A New Britain murder suspect has been arrested in Georgetown, South Carolina after he was found hiding in a refrigerator.
Benjamin Morales, 43, is the suspect in the fatal shooting of 27-year-old Alice Marie Figueroa on Elam Street on Feb. 4.
Authorities said Morales and Figueroa were dating and had two young children together. But family of the victim says Figueroa had broken up with Morales and tried to get a protective order against him.
Family and friends of Figueroa say they've lived in fear of what Morales might do next.
"It's terror. You live in total terror," said Yesenia, a close friend of Figueroa's.
According to New Britain police, US Marshals and local deputies from the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office took Morales into custody. The sheriff's office said he was found hiding inside a functioning refrigerator in a home.
"It will not bring her back, but it's a sense of relief that she's going to get the justice she deserves," said Yesenia.
Morales will remain in South Carolina until he’s extradited back to Connecticut.
