    What to Know

    • WHAT: A First Alert for storms including pockets of damaging winds, heavy rain, lightning, and even a tornado.

    • WHERE: All of Connecticut

    • WHEN: The main severe weather threat is in the late morning through mid-afternoon across the state, with another window in the evening.

The NBC Connecticut meteorologists have issued a First Alert from this afternoon into the early morning hours of Thursday and storms are moving through the state.

Severe thunderstorm warnings that were issued for Fairfield and New Haven counties have been canceled.

A combination of building instability and wind shear in the atmosphere may be enough to produce pockets of damaging winds, heavy rain, lightning and even a tornado.

While the storms are likely to remain scattered in nature any storm that forms is capable of producing localized damage.

The main severe weather threat is in the late morning through mid-afternoon across Connecticut.

There is another window for strong thunderstorms in the evening but these are expected to remain more isolated.
