Hartford Man Gets 8 Years for Shooting Friend

Hartford man sentenced to 8 years for accidental shooting of friend.

Timothy Foote admitted to killing his own friend and will spend the next eight years in prison because of it.

Foote said the shooting of his friend, Phillip Davis, 20, in January 2010 was accidental.

He told police that he, Davis and some other people were playing with the gun and talking about revenge in Davis' apartment a day after Davis was robbed. They passed around a gun and "dry-fired" it.

Foote pulled the trigger twice, thinking it was not loaded, the Associated Press reports. The second time, the gun discharged.

Foote was sentenced on Tuesday, after pleading guilty to manslaughter in the death. reports the Hartford Courant.

"True friends do not pick up guns and point them at each other for fun," Davis' cousin said in court.

Foote apologized to the family, and according to The Courant said, as much as the family hates him, "I hate myself 10 times more."
