Weather Affecting Schools in Middletown, Milford



    Weather issues are affecting schools in Middletown and Milford and a school bus was stuck in West Haven on Friday morning.

    Woodrow Wilson Middle School in Middletown was evacuated because of a fire at around 8:15 a.m. Officials said there is a fire in the electrical room at the school located at 370 Hunting Hill Ave.

    The superintendent said a power surge blew out a transformer, which caused an electrical fire.

    Two custodians were hospitalized because of minor smoke inhallation. The are expected to be fine,

    Some of the students were taken to an old school building next door to the middle school and city and school buses are being brought to the site.

    The school was closed for the rest of Friday and officials are assessing the damage. The fire was limited to the electrical room, and the cause is under investigation.

    Joseph A. Foran High School in Milford, dismissing at 9:30 a.m. because of power outages and Orchard Hills Elementary School, in Milford, is dismissing at 10:30 a.m. because of power outages.

    A school bus is stuck under the bridge at Washington and Wood streets in West Haven and firefighters are getting students off the bus.
