Father of Child With Rare Birth Defect Faces Drug Charges

    Oxycodone gives coke the bump

    The Watertown father of a little girl who captured people's hearts is back in the spotlight, but this time for the wrong reasons.

    The Statewide Narcotics Task Force arrested Jason Perillo in October, the WaterburyRepublican-American reports. He is the father of Ava Jean Perillo, a girl born without eyes because of a rare congenital disease called anophthalmia. 

    The family has been the subject of previous stories on NBC Connecticut.

    Jason Perillo pleaded guilty to intent to sell narcotics, the paper reports. Police said he sold a powdered form of OxyContin to an informant. Perillo told the newspaper that the family was having financial difficulties and he decided to sell his own medication.  

    The Republican-American reports that Inside Edition interviewed the family on Christmas Eve for a show expected to air in early 2011.
